Objective

Block Microsoft Edge Extensions Installation and Download.

Context

The business use case is to prevent users from installing browser extensions in Microsoft Edge. These extensions can potentially introduce privacy risks, data exfiltration paths, or policy violations in corporate environments.

 

Configuration

When a user clicks the GET button on a Microsoft Edge extension page, an HTTP GET request is generated with the pattern https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/getproductdetailsbycrxid/<extension ID>

  1. Create a URL List

 Path : Policies > Profiles URL Lists > New URL List

 

  1. Add the URL List to a Custom URL Category
    Path : Policies >Profiles > Custom Categories > New Category

 

 

       3.Set up the real-time protection policy to block the specified category.

 

 

Note: If you want to allow a specific extension, you can create a URL list and add it as an exclusion in the custom category, as shown below.
