- What AI Gateway is and why it was built: a virtual machine you deploy in your own environment to inspect east-west AI traffic between AI agents and your LLMs

- Core capabilities: authentication, rate limiting, access control, and content inspection with DLP and guardrails
- Recent updates: support for all three major hyperscalers, single-endpoint LLM routing, token-based rate limiting, TSS FastScan support, automated AWS deployment, and redaction of sensitive data
- Securing MCP traffic with policies that allow or block specific MCP servers, activities and tools
Highlights from the live Q&A
- Compatibility: AI Gateway supports the OpenAI, Gemini and Claude API schemas, which covers most LLM use cases, including privately hosted models that expose one of them.
- Rate limiting: Token-based limits can be set per LLM model.
- Guardrails: LLMs don’t run on the gateway. Guardrails use a built-in CPU-based engine, or an external GPU you host, with minimal added latency.
- Existing API gateways: AI Gateway can be deployed alongside your current API gateway, or replace it if it is only used for AI traffic.
- Licensing: AI Gateway is licensed by base platform SKU with a monthly transaction entitlement, with add-on transaction packs for additional volume.
